Seamstress Tips
Seamstress Tip #1
When preparing for your appointment, always bring the footwear, belt and/or any other items which you intend to go with your outfit(s). Having these personal items with you during your consultation and fitting(s) will help to ensure that the best results can be achieved by the process.
Seamstress Tip #2
Many tailors choose to offer a dry-cleaning service to their customers for practical purposes, however, there are also some regulations in place which concern workplace sanitation and public health. Your garment worker will thank you for following suit and bringing only clean clothing for them to work on.
Seamstress Tip #3
When deciding on alterations for your new (or used) garments, ensure that you wash the item(s) according to the directions, and/or, your usual personal preferences to avoid surprises with the fit of your altered garments.
Also note:
Fabrics can shrink anywhere from 1-5%. It is possible for a fabric to grow in size too. Generally, raw, or 'untreated' natural fiber textiles can undergo changes to a greater extent during laundering than a synthetic material would. Fabrics can also 'relax' as well as shrink.
